Description

Starr Arms .44 Percussion 1858 Army Revolver carried by Capt. Benjamin F. Goss, of the Kansas 9th Cavalry. Blued 6” barrel, dove tailed sight, hinged frame, six-shot cylinder, double action mechanism, one-piece walnut grip. Includes a leather storage box marked “B. GOSS”, a framed commission dated 1862, a clothing and expenses document dated 1864, and a folder with various research documents including documents on the revolver and a history of the regiment during the Civil War.

 

Captain Benjamin F. Goss was enlisted into 'F' Company of the Kansas 9th Cavalry and was primarily involved in patrols between the Missouri River and the Rocky Mountains. He and his company were involved in many historical battles such as those in Locust Grove with the forces of General Coffee, Newtonia, & Lawrence against Quantrill's Raiders.
